Q&A with Jess Crow
What interests you most about taking on DIY projects?
What can happen if you just “go with it.” When we create anything from the heart, a DIY project is a great example, the sense of accomplishment we feel from a job well done is hard to describe.
What creative areas do you prefer to focus on?
My favorite parts of any project are the design and then right before it is finished.
What do you consider to be your greatest business accomplishment thus far?
My name on an epoxy label. My partnership with TotalBoat has allowed me to have my namesake on a Nationally sold product by an amazing company.
What has been your most difficult project that you’ve tackled?
It wasn’t something super complex, but it just would not work right! It was a countertop that I ended up having to build twice and then paint and epoxy over half a dozen times.
Do you have a brand partner that you consider to be your favorite?
Well, aside from TotalBoat, I love Wagner. Mixol, Laguna…Gator. Firm Grip. Isotunes…haha!
Which platform helps you to reach your audience the most, and how do you keep them engaged?
I have quite different audiences on each platform! My Facebook crowd is more in tune with my personal story, growth, and desire to help others. Whereas my Instagram is all about the process. Not so much the finished work. And then even more peripherally LinkedIn and Tiktok focus on their respective areas. The key is to know this and cater to each one’s strengths.
Based upon your personal experience, what’s one piece of advice that you’d give to blogger/influencers?
Stand out from the crowd! If a brand is faced with choosing from 100 accounts that all look the same, all have relatively the same content and engagement you may end up lost in a sea of shiplap. If you have some zebra-striped shiplap in your account, you are much more likely to at least cause them to pause and a smile. Do not be afraid to be different and embrace your inner weirdness!
What’s one fun fact about you that our readers would be surprised to know?
I am very shy. I can teach a class of 100s and not feel pressured at all, but if you find me in a small social gathering, I am very wallflower, incredibly quiet!
What do you like most about HAVEN Conference?
All the beautiful people! There is such a sense of love and adoration for everyone that is there.
What do you want your audience to take away from your presentation at Heart of HAVEN virtual conference?
That they can do so much more with color! Once we find something that works, we tend to get uncomfortable breaking out of that box. While we are going to be creating faux marble with neutral tones, once you master how to do this you can start making beautiful creations like Rose Quartz!
