Q&A with Wendy Zock

What interests you most about taking on DIY projects?
I love to take on new projects, from simple to complicated. For me the most rewarding part of a project is the end result. Most of the time we have no idea what we are doing, but we learn as we go.

What creative areas do you prefer to focus on?
I love to paint! Whether I am painting a wall, or an up-cylced piece of furniture, it has always been fun for me.

What do you consider to be your greatest business accomplishment thus far?
I would have to say my biggest accomplishment has been becoming a public speaker and mentor. Having the chance to show others how to use social media, to build their businesses and brands, is so rewarding.

What has been your most difficult project that you’ve tackled?
When we moved into our fixer upper, we changed out the floor in our entryway. It used to be an old porch, which was enclosed as part of the house. We realized after starting the project, that it had four layers of flooring. It took forever to get through layers of tile, bricks, and level out the floor.

Do you have a brand partner that you consider to be your favorite?
I would have to say Home Depot. I love brands that give back to their communities. As a prior military family, the support Home Depot shows our veterans is something we appreciate. I have worked closely with the Home Depot Foundation, and they truly roll up their sleeves and dive into giving back to their communities and employees.

Which platform helps you to reach your audience the most, and how do you keep them engaged?
Instagram has been our biggest platform. We try to keep our followers constantly engaged through stories, and consistently posting on our feed. We take our followers along on all of our projects from start to finish. We invite them into our crazy chaotic world, sharing everything from DIY’s, recipes, to styling, and decorating tips.

Based upon your personal experience, what’s one piece of advice that you’d give to blogger/influencers?
Find your tribe! It can be intimidating, and overwhelming, to jump into a sea of bloggers and influencers. When you find your tribe, they will not only support you, they will be a vital part of your journey. Building long-lasting relationships will be very rewarding. It is very important to make those connections early on. Find people in your niche, that you have things in common with, and help build each other up. It is nice to surround yourself with people who understand the journey you are on.

What’s one fun fact about you that our readers would be surprised to know?
I married my husband, who was active duty military and we moved 8 times in 13 years. I am also a breast cancer survivor, since I was diagnosed in 2012 I have been pursuing my passion of DIY, decorating, and design.
