As the creator and visionary behind Live Pretty On A Penny, Erin Marshall has built a name for herself by educating, inspiring, and helping her audience cultivate their own creative sensibilities. She has a knack for showing others just what they need to do to achieve their own budget-friendly home décor dreams. While blogging about a multitude of home and lifestyle topics, she is constantly hard at work achieving décor dreams of her own, by painting, building, and planning the next project.
Erin launched Live Pretty on a Penny in 2012, and her initial topics included her personal experiences and DIY adventures. She then set a lofty goal for herself; to move others to get to work on their own DIY projects. Throughout her blogging career, she has developed Live Pretty on a Penny into a go-to home and lifestyle resource for her large and growing audience. Her current content includes room makeovers & reveals, home décor tips and tricks, family, travel tips, and general life advice and hacks. Erin has been featured on the Rachael Ray Show, and worked with brands such as the Home Depot, Invitation Homes, amongst many others.
Along with being a wife and mother, in her downtime, Erin enjoys finding local adventures and traveling, rummaging through thrift stores, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows.
Q&A with Erin Marshall
What interests you most about taking on DIY projects?
I love seeing spaces transform, and knowing how I have had such a huge impact in taking these spaces from drab to fab makes me feel so good!
What creative areas do you prefer to focus on?
I love to focus on more full scale projects, such as adding wall treatments, changing flooring, etc.
What do you consider to be your greatest business accomplishment thus far?
My greatest accomplishment thus far has been participating in the Make it Home Show house decorating a kids room.
What has been your most difficult project that you’ve tackled?
I don’t have a project that I would consider difficult, but more so tedious. The laundry room, pantry, and my built-in bench was quite tedious.
Do you have a brand partner that you consider to be your favorite?
I enjoy all of my brand partnerships so no specific favorite:)
Which platform helps you to reach your audience the most, and how do you keep them engaged?
I use instagram and my blog to stay connected to my audience because I love to show the process of each project in detail and both platforms provide me the opportunity to do so.
Based upon your personal experience, what’s one piece of advice that you’d give to blogger/influencers?
My advice is to focus on the things that make you happy, avoid trends, and stay consistent. It all pays off in the end.
What’s one fun fact about you that our readers would be surprised to know?
I am honestly shocked when people praise me for a project that I’ve completed because I feel as though I am just an average and anyone can do it. But apparently that is not the case.
What do you like most about HAVEN Conference?
I love to be around so many like-minded bloggers and influencers in the home space. It’s an opportunity to learn so much about new opportunities to grow and networking are endless!
What do you want your audience to take away from your presentation at the Heart of HAVEN virtual conference?
I want them to take away inspiration and the focus to move forward in creative business. I want them to understand that with hard work and consistency, the sky is the limit on where their blog or creative business can take them.
